Tea has a long history in the East of being used as a medicinal beverage. It is rich in powerful antioxidant polyphenols, called flavonoids, and can help defend the body against a variety of ailments. Certain teas are used to aid in digestion, while others can strengthen the immune system,  reduce heart disease, lower cholesterol, or help calm one's nerves. These benefits are only starting to be recognized by modern science in the West. 

Many of these studies are available online, but a good place to start is the Tea Association of the USA.

Besides the health qualities of the tea leaf, is the simple act of preparing and drinking the tea itself. Slow down and enjoy the moment at hand. Stop, sit, and sip. Repeat as often as desired.
